From digital games to mobile 360° virtual reality, leading custom learning provider, Sponge, will be showing visitors at the Data Protection World Forum Conference & Expo how the creative use of technology can empower people to reduce risk.
The multi award-winning company will reveal how its learning game, GDPR Sorted is already having an impact within months of its launch. The game is helping companies around the world to be GDPR-compliant by motivating people to learn and apply the new rules on data protection.
Sponge will also be demonstrating an immersive VR training experience in the Exhibition Hall throughout the event at Excel London on 20-21 November 2018. It’s been developed by Sponge to help security personnel reduce risk but can be adapted for other security and compliance scenarios.
The conference is produced by the organisers of the GDPR Summit Series, who describe it as “one of the most important gatherings of experts in data protection, privacy, cyber security, risk and technology”. The event includes all aspects of data protection and aims to inform, educate, question and inspire.

Our GDPR Sorted game makes learning the basic rules of GDPR enjoyable and allows people to practise as they play. Sponge’s developers worked with GDPR experts to create the game, which uses learning game theory and mechanics to embed core GDPR principles. The game can be played on mobile devices or desktop computers. On completion, employees will have demonstrated they understand what data is protected and who they can and can’t share the data with. They will know how to identify a breach risk and respond appropriately.
Data from more than 5,000 players of GDPR Sorted in 26 countries and internal research at Sponge shows:
- 91% of players enjoyed the game
- 58% of players saw a knowledge lift
- 16% of people playing in their own time (even on a Saturday night!)
- 27% of people playing the game multiple times
